Geothermal Heating and Cooling System!
The Townhomes of Terra Commons are built using a geothermal HVAC system; a technology that is an energy efficient, cost-efficient and earth-friendly alternative to conventional heating and air-conditioning systems. While geothermal technology has been around for over 30 years, its benefits are just now being widely put to work.
How does Geothermal Technology Work?
The science is relatively simple. The earth absorbs heat from the sun and, 8’ below the surface, the ground retains a constant temperature of approximately 100 C all year round.
A Leading Edge System
Geothermal pipes that circulate water are installed into the ground, extracting heat in the winter and releasing heat in the summer. Geothermal heat pumps installed inside the building, compress heat from the system and convert it into warm air that is circulated, providing the building with heat. In the summer, the process is reversed. The heat pumps extract heat from the air in the building (cooling it) and deposit the warm air into the geothermal system that carries it back into the ground.
Live Green and Save at Terra Commons
Geothermal heating and cooling systems require less electricity to run and use zero fossil fuels. They produce no greenhouse gas emissions and do not contribute to global warming. For residents at Terra Commons, operating costs are forecasted to be substantially less than typical HVAC systems. Geothermal energy is an unlimited resource. The geothermal system will never be affected by rising gas prices and the system has a life expectancy of over 100 years.
Working with the Earth to help the Earth. Now that’s Smart Technology.
